A Day Off

Matthew 11:29 "Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls."

So what shall I do to make the best of a nice day off. The rain seems to have stopped for a while. It's foggy, but that should clear. I could clean up some area of the house that became crammed when we cleaned up for Thanksgiving. And I could make an apple pie for my wonderful husband. I could work on my knitting, though that is one thing I can do for a while when Emily is around. I could set up some Christmas decorations, like the creche. I could go Christmas shopping. I could wash my hair. So many possibilities. I am having lunch with Riley at the Pearl Bakery at 1:30, so I will start with washing my hair. I will be back later to say what I did with a day have. I pray that the Lord will keep Emily safe, as she is with her Dad today. I do not trust him to watch after her properly. She always returns with injuries.

Well I managed to do things like clean up a bit at my desk on the third floor, tidy up the table in the library, finish loading the dishwasher and start it up, get some bulk items in proper containers, wash and dry my hair and get nicely dressed, eat breakfast, and these things were not done in that order. At 12:50 I left with Corey to go to Goodwill. Riley was going to be in a meeting with a commissioner from 1 to maybe 1:30, and I was going to wait at Goodwill for him to tell me he was done. He called at about 1:50, which was just long enough for me to have a good time at goodwill. I purchased a lovely hardback of a C. S. Lewis book, and three really good steal cake pans from Germany. Riley and I had a nice lunch at the Pearl and then went to Powell's, where I bought a 1980's knitting book and Riley bought a Szechuan cookbook for me. He has dreams of my being able to make perfect dry fried shredded beef, a dish we loved in Hong Kong. This would be a good thing to know how to make. We then went to Starbucks at 20th and Hawthorne. I used to grade papers there, and I really enjoy being there. We did the New York Times crossword for a while, but then Riley was very very tired, as he had had 5 meetings today and he was in his fancy suit, so he headed home and I stayed a while. Oh, I forgot to mention, from the Pearl to Starbucks I let him off to pick up his car in the parking garage. Just before I left Starbucks I saw that an absolutely adorable cup and plate were on sale (I had been eying it for some time). I bought the cup and plate and headed home. Riley was in his jeans, he'd build a fire, and was relaxing in the living room, so I changed into a bit more comfortable cloths and joined him, sitting right by the fire. All in all it was a very relaxing day, though not very productive.
